If rumours are anything to go by then, Sanjay Dutt, who is taking a keen interest in his biopic, apparently wanted to play father Sunil Dutt in the film. A popular daily's report suggested that the actor though didn't make it known to director Rajkumar Hirani or co-producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra, but in the back of his mind, Sanjay wanted that he play his father on screen. Sanjay feels that only he was close to his father than anyone else who is associated with the film and that no one else could've done the role better.
A source close to the leading daily revealed, "Sanjay has given over 200 hours of recording as a basic matter for the biopic. While Hirani was writing the film, Sanjay was toying with the idea of playing Sunil Dutt because as a father, he was the one person who had closely seen the ups and downs in his life. Sanjay was extremely close to his dad, and he thought he could emulate him better than any other actor."
The source further adds, "But he dropped the idea, even before letting his buddy Raju know what he had on his mind, and allowed him to choose an actor who'd be perfect to play the late actor."
Sanjay Dutt's biopic will see Ranbir Kapoor play Sanjay, whereas Manisha Koirala has now been roped in to play Sanjay's mother, Nargis Dutt. While Paresh Rawal is playing Sanjay's father, Sunil Dutt, Sonam Kapoor is going to play Sanjay's love interests. The makers have already begun shooting for the film, and are looking at releasing it during Christmas. (Also Read:
