While Abhay did respond to the post, Sonam got massively trolled for the same and later ended up deleting the tweet.
When asked Abhay about the same, the actor replied, “Honestly I didn’t care what people from the fraternity think because this is not about me or them. I have nothing personal against them. I put up the post because I was tired of celebrities and brands telling me that they are simply propagating a regressive message which has existed in our society for hundreds of years. The frustration comes from the fact that by cashing in on it and we’re only perpetuating it further. So, since this is not about Sonam and me, let’s stick to the issue at hand, shall we?”

I only wish to stop reinforcing a myth so we can deal with the real problem. Some people will take offence to everything. That’s okay, we need people like that so we can know what not to do,” Abhay asserted.
On the work front, Abhay is currently busy shooting for an Indo-American production, 'The Field'. Considering the affinity towards sequels in Bollywood, when asked if a sequel to 'Socha Na Tha' or 'Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara' is in the pipeline, the actor denied the possibility at the moment. "I’m not in touch with Imtiaz (Ali) and Zoya (Akhtar) has not come up with a part two for ZNMD yet. We laugh over the possibility but it’s not like she has a plan yet," the actor concluded.
