Ever since Jacqueline Fernandez’s ‘Ek Do Teen’ song released everyone has only been talking about the song. However, this is not the first time that a popular old song has been recreated for another film. The reinvented versions are usually a step ahead of the previous ones with new beats and at times, rap too. But it also happens at times that the remake does not work with the audience. Whether you liked the original or the remix version the trend of remixing and remaking old songs in new films continue to grow. Let’s take a look at some of the songs which did not work with the audience.
02/12Ek Do Teen
On Monday, the new song starring Jacqueline Fernandez was released, and people have mixed opinions about the song. This is not the first time people have hated a remake of a song or a film but never this ferociously. Twitter is flooded with posts trashing Jacqueline Fernandez’s remake of the hit Madhuri Dixit song, ‘Ek Do Teen’. The new version is sung by Shreya Ghoshal while the original was in Alka Yagnik’s voice. Some twitteraties called ‘vulgar‘, ‘blasphemous to Madhuri’s work’ and just plain ‘garbage’. The song, which is a special song from Tiger Shroff and Disha Patani’s next ‘Baaghi 2’, is also been called the worst remake ever made.
03/12Aashiq Banaya Aapne
‘Hate Story 4’ starred Urvashi Rautela, Karan Wahi, Vivan Bhathena, Ihana Dhillon, Gulshan Grover, James Abbey. And the original film which was titled ‘Aashiq Banaya Aapne’ featured Emraan Hashmi, Sonu Sood, and Tanushree Dutta. This Himesh Reshammiya-composed song, which marked his sensational debut as a playback singer then, has been sung by Neha Kakkar, with additional lyrics by Manoj Muntashir and re-composed by Tanishk Bagchi. The original lyrics are by Sameer. The original version was a hit but the remix did not work well with the audience.
04/12Neend Churai Meri
The song was remade from the 1997 hit comedy film ‘Ishq’. The film starred Kajol, Ajay Devgn, Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla. And the song from ‘Golmaal Again’ stars Ajay Devgn, Parineeti Chopra, Arshad Warsi, Kunal Kemmu, Shreyas Talpade and Tusshar Kapoor. As much as the audience liked the original version, the remix did not quite entertain the audience.
05/12Kisi Ko Pyar Ho Jaye
The original film titled ‘Dil Kya Kare’ starred Ajay Devgn, Mahima Chaudhry, Kajol and Chandrachur Singh in lead roles and the song was also a hit one. It was sung by Udit Narayan and Alka Yagnik. The new one was titled ‘Kisi Ko Pyar Ho Jaye’ from the film ‘Kaabil’. As much as the film starring Hrithik Roshan and Yami Gautam worked at the box office the song did not meet the demand of the audience.
06/12Hare Krishna Hare Ram
‘Hare Krishna Hare Ram’ was the remake of the popular song featuring Akshay Kumar, by the same name. The original was from the movie ‘Bhool Bhulaiya’ [2007] where Akshay Kumar was seen in the disguise of a Godman. In the new version, Vidyut tried to steal hearts with his dance moves, while the ladies compliment him. Vidyut Jammwal, Adah Sharma, and Esha Gupta were the lead cast of ‘Commando 2’. But the song didn’t work with the audience.
07/12Kisike Haath Na Aayega Yeh Ladka
The song was from the film ‘I Me aur Main’ where Kavita Krishnamoorthy’s song ‘Na Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai’ from ‘Chaalbaaz’ was rendered by a male singer and sung from a male perspective-‘Kisike Haath Na Aayega Yeh Ladka.’ The film starred John Abraham, Prachi Desai, and Chitrangada Singh. But the film and the song both flopped at the box office.
08/12Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast
In March, directors Abbas-Mastan launched Abbas’s son Mustafa in a film called ‘Machine’ which flopped, also the remix version of the popular dance number from ‘Mohra’- ‘Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast’ which also did not work with the audience as well. The original one starred Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty, Raveena Tandon and Naseeruddin Shah in the lead roles, with Paresh Rawal, Gulshan Grover, Raza Murad and Sadashiv Amrapurkar in supporting roles. The film was released on July 1, 1994, and went on to become the second highest grossing Indian film of that year.
09/12Oye Oye
This song is from the biopic ‘Azhar’, based on the events of cricketer Mohammed Azharuddin’s life, had the remix version of the superb song from Tridev– ‘Gajar Ne Kiya Hai Ishaara’. As he had had an affair with actress Sangeeta Bijlani, a song picturized on her was conveniently lifted and remixed. But the remix was bad both in terms of rendition and picturization.
10/12Dil Mein Chhupa Loonga
The remix song was sung by Armaan Malik and Tulsi Kumar. And ‘Wajah Tum Ho’ stars Sana Khan, Sharman Joshi, Gurmeet Choudhary and Rajniesh Duggall in the lead roles. The film revolves around a live murder committed on television. The film borrowed its title from a song in the film ‘Hate Story 3’. The earlier one starred Diya Abraham and Vikas Bhalla. Although it was a romantic song it did not work well at the box office.
