Freida Pinto is one of the most talented and versatile actresses in the Hollywood film industry. The actress made her film debut with the Hollywood movie 'Slumdog Millionaire' and rose to fame soon after that. Although the Indian media has credited Freida with breaking the stereotypical image of an Indian woman in foreign films, she has been a lesser-known figure in Indian cinema. 02/11Freida was born in Mumbai
Frieda Pinto was born on October 18, 1984, in Mumbai. Her mother, Sylvia, is a school principal and father Frederick is a senior bank manager. Her sister Sharon is a News Producer in one of the leading news channels. She has studied at the Carmel of St. Joseph School in Mumbai. Freida has completed a degree in Arts with a major in English literature, and minor in Psychology and Economics, from St. Xavier's College.
03/11She was a model for 2 years
Getting into the industry was not really a cakewalk for her. Before getting her big break, Freida modeled for high-end brands for almost two years. She also worked as a television presenter for a travel show named ‘Full Circle’. She had enrolled herself in Barry John's acting classes in Mumbai. In 2008, Freida auditioned for the role of Latika in ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ and soon got a call from Danny Boyle. Freida played the love-interest of the central character, Jamal, in the movie.

‘Slumdog Millionaire’ emerged as the biggest hit of the year 2008. The film was nominated for 10 Academy Awards in 2009, out of which it won eight. Freida Pinto emerged as the next big thing in the industry. The film gained universal acclaim and so did Freida. Her hard-hitting performance coupled with her unconventional looks, carved a strong foothold for her in the industry.
05/11She was supposed to star in 'Chak De! India'
Frieda Pinto was also supposed to be a part of Shah Rukh Khan-starrer ‘Chak De! India’. On ‘Koffee with Karan’, Frieda Pinto revealed that she too had auditioned for the role of one of the hockey players in the movie. When Karan Johar asked if she was rejected by Yash Raj Films, Frieda said, "They auditioned me, Slumdog... was also going on at the same time, and Slumdog... happened. I felt ‘Chak De! India’ was a great film. If I talk about Indian commercials, I did get rejected as I did not look Indian."

Freida Pinto was nominated at various award ceremonies such as British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) and MTV Movie Awards. Her performance in ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ was well received, and she won the "Breakthrough Performance Award" at the Palm Springs International Film Festival and Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

Hrithik Roshan says that he loved actor Freida Pinto’s performance in Richard Raymond's biographical movie, ‘Desert Dancer’. The 41-year old ‘Krrish 3’ star seemed impressed with Freida’s dancing skills in the movie. “Has anyone out there seen ‘DesertDancer’? Pure passion ignited. Most incredible film I have seen. Such amazing actors. Bravo to the entire team. And how amazing is Frieda Pinto. Never seen anyone dance like that. Wanted to wish her but she doesn’t pick up my phone! Maybe she’ll get this,” he posted in a series of tweets on Twitter.
09/11She doesn't like looking at herself in the mirror
According to reports, Freida Pinto has confessed that she doesn't like to look at herself in the mirror. She has been quoted in the report as saying that, "It's not necessarily the way I see myself. In fact, I don't even like to look at myself in the mirror. But I'm aware of the perception and I always say that if it's because of that one line in 'Slumdog...' where Latika is described as 'the most beautiful girl in the world', then I have to do everything that I can to change that perception.

In 2012, Freida joined Plan International's "Because I am a Girl" campaign as Global Ambassador, promoting gender equality to lift millions of girls out of poverty. In 2013, she appeared in a video clip for Gucci's "Chime for Change" campaign to raise funds and awareness of women's issues in terms of education, health, and justice. In April 2013, she collaborated with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and World Bank President Jim Yong Kim for the Call to Action - Girl Rising campaign. In July 2014, she spoke at the Girl Summit in London, where she called for more progress toward the end of female genital mutilation and child marriage.
