Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who was in Jaipur for the shoot of 'Padmavati' suffered physical assault at the hands of the Karni Sena, who was protesting against the distortion of historical facts in the film. The protestors not only physically assaulted SLB, but also vandalised the sets, and created a ruckus.
Reacting to the Jaipur incident, the lead cast of Padmavati took to their social media handles to express their shock and disappointment.
Deepika Padukone, who essays the titular role of Rani Padmavati expressed her shock and assured her fans that the film did not distort the history. The actress tweeted:
Echoing Deepika's sentiments, Ranveer Singh took to Twitter and said:
Shahid Kapoor, who plays Raja Ratan Singh in the film, expressed his shock over the assault and regret at not being around during the incident.
The Jaipur schedule of the film has been cancelled, and Sanjay Leela Bhansali has flown down to Mumbai.
