Rakesh Roshan had recently made an announcement that 'Kaabil' will release on January 25 instead of January 26. He took this decision along with film distributors as this move would've helped avert a clash between 'Kaabil' and 'Raees'. 'Kaabil' was to release in the evening of Jan 25, as the makers wanted the audience to get a preview of the film before the release of 'Raees' the next day.
But the makers of 'Raees', in a theatrical trailer released today, announced that the film will now release on Jan 25. Which means that 'Raees' and 'Kaabil' will now hit theatres on the same day. This move by the makers of 'Raees' has not gone well down with Rakesh Roshan. A source close to DNA revealed, "SRK’s 'Raees' will have a worldwide release on January 25 and it’s mentioned in the theatrical trailer that will be launched today. It’s releasing straight from morning shows on Wednesday and not evening shows as 'Kaabil'."
Rakesh Roshan speaking about his concerns said, "I didn’t know about their date. My distributors said we should come out on January 25 from the evening shows. I didn’t know the Raees team also planned to change their date." Rakesh Roshan is extremely angry with Shah Rukh on this move.
The filmmaker further added, "Whatever dates we are taking, they are following us. I would have never done the same. I belong to an old school of filmmaking and I have given 50 years of my life to the industry. I would never release my film on a day when another filmmaker has already announced their film. I decided to remove 'Krrish 4' also from Christmas 2018 because I saw SRK’s film is coming that day. I could have easily released my film with 'Befikre' or even with 'Dangal' if I had to clash. But when I announced the film in February, I saw a clean window in January and hence I picked the date. I can’t get into this new groove of things because I don’t understand it."
Rakesh Roshan has openly spoken about his concerns, whereas Shah Rukh is yet to comment on the same. A strategic approach or a dirty game - this we leave it to the audience to decide.
