"Net carb" is the primary focus on this diet as fibre from carbs is not easily digestible. Lauren Harris-Pincus, M.S., R.D.N., founder of NutritionStarringYOU.com told a news portal "you subtract the fibre content from the total carbohydrate on the label to arrive at 'net carbs', meaning the grams of carbs that are available for digestion by the body." There are also several phases in this diet that increase total net carb consumption as you go along. In phase one, you consume less than 35 grams of net carbs a day. In the second phase, you consume less than 75 grams of net carbs per day. In the maintenance phase, you eat less than 125 grams. Foods like beans, legumes, high-fibre vegetables and fruits are allowed on this diet.
