People who bake often do so simply for the love of it. Sometimes, they also do it because their loved ones enjoy what they bake for them! We're one of those people who encourage those around us to bake so that we get to munch on the yummy treats. Anyway, coming back to the topic, we have recently come across many experts who state that baking, especially for others can be accompanied with a host of psychological benefits. Who knew, right?
“Baking has the benefit of allowing people creative expression,” associate professor of psychological and brain sciences at Boston University, Donna Pincus, told a leading news portal. "There’s a lot of literature for connection between creative expression and overall wellbeing. Whether it’s painting or it’s making music (or baking), there is a stress relief that people get from having some kind of an outlet and a way to express themselves," she added. Stress is related to a host of mental and physical issues and finding a way to cope with it is important to lead a normal life.
When baking for other people, baking can also be a helpful way to communicate one’s feelings too. Sometimes there are no words and only food can communicate what you’re trying to say, as stated by Susan Whitbourne, professor of psychological and brain sciences at the University of Massachusetts. "It can be helpful for people who have difficulty expressing their feelings in words to show thanks, appreciation or sympathy with baked goods," she said.
It is said that baking is a way mindfulness and a form of altruism. Julie Ohana, a licensed clinical social worker said, "I think offering food to somebody else is just as much a comfort to the person receiving as the person who’s serving and offering," Well, so, bake away!
