This Pakistani actress loses out on a Bollywood film
The Pakistani actress was to play the lead role in director Abhishek Jawkar’s next; however, the director dropped the idea after the Uri attacks
Miss Kyra | Oct 4, 2016, 13:18 ISTThe cross-border tension between India and Pakistan has spilled over to the arts. Pakistan has banned Indian movies after India put a ban on Pakistani actors from working in Bollywood. Recently, Ali Zafar’s younger brother lost out on his Bollywood debut in Karan Johar’s movie which was also starring Fawad Khan and Katrina Kaif. And now, the ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ actress from Pakistan, Mawra Hocane lost an opportunity to star in ‘Not a Prostitute’ film.
The director of the movie, Abhishek Jawkar, who made his Bollywood debut with the thriller ‘Missing On A Weekend’, said he initially wanted Mawra to play the lead role in his movie, but changed his mind after the Uri attacks and surgical strike. He said “I will not work with any Pakistani actors in my upcoming film or in my future projects also. I was planning to cast Pakistani actress Mawra Hocane as the leading lady of my film ‘Not A Prostitute’. But now after the Uri attack and India’s surgical attack reply, I strongly feel I should support my country and the soldiers fighting for our nation.”
The movie, which has been written by Jawkar himself, is scheduled to release in November 2017. He further said, “Casting a lead lady may take a week more and we’re planning to go on floors in November.”
