As reported earlier, Vishal Bhardwaj is in talks with Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan for his next untitled film based on a chapter of Hussain Zaidi's 'Mafia Queens Of Mumbai'. The film will see Deepika play the role of Rahima Khan AKA Sapna Didi, who is on a mission to eliminate her husband's killer, Dawood Ibrahim. And Irrfan with be seen playing her acquaintance who falls in love with her and helps her on her mission to eliminate the don.
However, a daily now reveals that Sanjay Leela Bhansali, just like Vishal Bhardwaj, has acquired the rights of a chapter in 'Mafia Queens Of Mumbai', and will soon produce a film based on the life of gangster Gangubai Kothewali, the dreaded woman who was famously known as the Madame Of Kamathipura. The report further suggests that SLB is planning to rope in Priyanka Chopra to play the lead in the film.
A source close to the daily revealed, "Sanjay is as fascinated by Gangubai’s life as Vishal is by Ashraf Khan. The principal casting is crucial. Both the directors have other projects before taking on Zaidi’s women gangsters’ stories. Vishal has locked in Sanjay’s current favourite Deepika Padukone while Sanjay may sign Priyanka Chopra to play Gangubai."
Well, it will be interesting to see two ace filmmakers make films on woman gangsters based on different chapters of the same book!
