Baadshah of Bollywood, King of Romance or King Khan, no matter what title you bestow upon him, it's a given fact that Shah Rukh Khan has established his name in the Bollywood film industry since the past 3 decades. He came into the industry at a time when stars like Salman Khan and Aamir Khan were ruling over Bollywood. But he still managed to find his way to the top without having a filmy background. Not only is he one of the best actors of the industry, he's also one of the most loved ones. So, on his birthday we bring you some of the lesser known facts of SRK.
02/11He made his debut with a TV show
Shah Rukh Khan first started his showbiz career as a television actor and then went on to become a star with hit series like ‘Fauji’ and ‘Circus’. However, his first stint on TV was supposed to be Lekh Tandon's ‘Dil Dariya’, which got delayed and so he made his debut with ‘Fauji’ in 1989.
03/11He once ran a restaurant in Delhi
Not many of SRK's fans know that he once ran a restaurant in Darya Ganj in Delhi. He did this for a while to survive during his initial struggling days as an actor.
04/11His debut film in Bollywood was 'Deewana'
Quite similar to his TV career, SRK's debut film was supposed to be 'Dil Ashna Hai' or 'Ahamaq', but both were delayed. The 1992 musical romantic action film 'Deewana' introduced us to this newcomer, who was destined to rule over Bollywood one day.

Many people know that SRK's father passed away when SRK was just 15 years old, but not many know that it was through his father that Shah Rukh got to know about theatre artists and developed an interest in acting. SRK's father used to run a mess at the National School of Drama in Delhi which is where SRK met different theatre artists.

Unfortunately, both his parents passed away before he could be successful in his life. This is the only regret that SRK has. But their deaths at an early age became a motivating factor towards work in his life and pushed him harder towards success.

Shah Rukh was originally named Abdul Rahman by his maternal grandmother, but apparently, his father wasn't too fond of the name, so he eventually changed it to Shah Rukh Khan. Well, Shah Rukh does sound better, doesn't it?
08/11He would have been a Hockey star if not a film star
Even though Shah Rukh was well educated in the field of Mass Communication, he once also said that he would have chosen hockey as a career option, if not films. The star was also captain of the football and hockey teams during his schooling period and had also played cricket at the National level.

Shah Rukh Khan is undoubtedly one of the richest stars in the world today with a net worth of more than 600 million dollars. But not many people know that his first salary was approximately Rs 50 which he earned at a Pankaj Udhas concert in Delhi in the 80's. He used that money to see the Taj Mahal in Agra.
